The 2010–2024 Toyota 4Runner, better known as the 5th Gen, is one of the most popular SUV platforms for off-road, overland, and daily-driver builds. Every 5th Gen 4Runner uses Toyota’s 4.0L 1GR-FE V6, paired with a five-speed automatic, and the platform earned a reputation for being simple, durable, and easy to modify.
Underneath, the 4Runner uses independent front suspension with a solid rear axle and coil springs. That layout gives owners plenty of options when it comes to leveling kits, upgraded shocks, coilovers, upper control arms, and full suspension systems. A mild lift can improve stance and tire clearance without changing the character of the truck, while taller setups open the door to more aggressive off-road builds.
Wheel fitment is another strong point. The 5th Gen 4Runner uses a 6x139.7 bolt pattern, giving it access to a huge selection of aftermarket wheels. Common setups range from factory-style 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires to wider, lower-offset wheels paired with 33-inch or larger tires.
The biggest fitment challenge is usually clearance around the front fenders, body mount, and inner liner. As tire size and wheel offset get more aggressive, trimming or a body mount chop may become necessary.
